What is a Studio Session?
Sometimes all it takes is another set of eyes.
A thoughtful question.
Or the freedom to try something different.
A Studio Session is a two-hour, one-on-one experience shaped around your work, interests, and creative questions.
We might spend our time looking closely at paintings or works in progress, discussing composition, color, materials, and visual language. Or we might work directly with materials, exploring intuitive approaches, expressive mark-making, layering, and new ways of responding to the work as it develops.
Some sessions are primarily conversational. Others are hands-on. Many are a combination of both.
Whether you're looking for fresh perspective on an existing artwork, working through a creative challenge, or simply curious about exploring something unfamiliar, we'll focus on what would be most useful to you.
The goal is to leave with fresh perspectives, practical possibilities, and something meaningful to carry back into your own creative practice.
What Can We Work On?
Every artist arrives with different questions, interests, and experiences. Your session is shaped around what you bring.

Sometimes a painting needs another set of eyes.
Bring an artwork, several works in progress, or a portfolio for thoughtful discussion and constructive feedback.
We can explore composition, color, movement, materials, visual relationships, and the decisions shaping your work.
Rather than telling you what is right or wrong, I'll ask questions, share observations, and help you consider possibilities you may not have recognized.

Sometimes the most useful thing we can do is make something.
We can work directly with materials, experimenting with intuitive abstraction, expressive mark-making, layering, mixed media, and ways of loosening or expanding your process.
You might want to explore abstraction for the first time, experiment with unfamiliar approaches, or reconnect with a more playful and responsive way of making art.
This is an opportunity to experiment without the pressure of producing a finished painting.

Sometimes you know something isn't working, but you aren't sure why.
Perhaps you're stuck on a particular painting, struggling with overworking, or uncertain about a new direction.
Together, we'll look closely at the challenge, consider what may be happening, and explore different ways forward.
The goal isn't always to find an immediate solution. Sometimes it's discovering a more interesting question.
What to Expect
Before our session, I'll ask you to share a little about your work, interests, and what you'd like to explore.
If we're focusing on critique or consultation, you may be invited to send images of your artwork in advance so I can become familiar with what you're making.
During our two hours together, we'll focus on the areas most relevant to you.
We may spend the entire session in conversation, work directly with materials, or move between looking, discussing, and experimenting.
There is no predetermined lesson plan.
This is dedicated time for your work, your questions, and your creative curiosity.
You'll leave with fresh perspectives, ideas to explore, and a clearer sense of what you might try next.

In Person Studio Session
Join me at my studio at JuxtaHub in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, serving artists throughout the Lehigh Valley, including Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton.
In-person sessions can include artwork critique, conversation, and hands-on exploration with materials. Basic materials may be provided depending on the focus of your session. We'll discuss any specific materials or supplies needed before we meet.
Virtual Studio Session
Connect with me through Google Meet from wherever you are.
Virtual sessions are particularly well suited for artwork critique, portfolio feedback, creative problem-solving, and guided exploration using materials available in your own studio.
