About The Workshop
There is a moment in painting where the work stops being about “making something look right” and starts becoming something felt.
This workshop is designed for people who want to explore painting in a more intuitive, expressive, and atmospheric way — whether you are a complete beginner or someone looking to loosen your process and reconnect with creativity.
Together, we’ll explore the idea of emotional weather: calm, tension, fog, movement, stillness, warmth, heaviness, release. Rather than working from strict reference photos or step-by-step instruction, participants will learn how to respond to color, marks, texture, and the evolving painting itself.
Through guided prompts, demonstrations, and supported studio time, each participant will create a layered abstract painting that reflects an inner landscape rather than an external image.
The focus is not perfection. It is presence, experimentation, and permission.
What You’ll Explore
Learn intuitive layering techniques using acrylic paint
Explore expressive mark-making and texture
Work with color emotionally rather than symbolically
Experiment with scraping, covering, and revising
Practice responding to the painting instead of controlling it
Develop atmosphere and depth within abstraction
Let go of the pressure to “get it right”

About The Studio Experience
Unlike large classroom settings, these workshops are intentionally small and intimate.
With only four participants, the experience allows for conversation, individual guidance, and space to truly settle into the creative process.
Workshops take place inside Kat Collins Studio at Juxtahub — a working contemporary artist studio focused on atmospheric abstraction, emotional landscapes, and intuitive process.
